Gardening For Busy People – 7 Steps to Create Your Own Garden Paradise

As the saying goes, “A job well planned is a job half done!” Gardening for busy people requires planning. Whether you are starting a garden from scratch or redesigning an existing plot, being able to visualise your garden and see the plan of development in your mind’s eye will make the process easier as well as making the end result better.

As the aim is to construct your own garden which will be easy to maintain for busy people, it is essential to plan ahead every step of the way. My purpose in this article is garden planning made easy. So, here are 7 steps to help you turn your plot from jungle to garden.

Step 1: Decide first what features you want in your garden; – e.g. patio, shed, greenhouse. Work out which parts of the garden will be sunny and those which will be in shade.

Step 2: If you are beginning a new garden from scratch, you will need to work over the site to clear all rubble and rubbish which the builders have left behind. If you are redesigned an existing garden you are saved from this particular chore.

Step 3: Begin with the positioning of the various structures which you wish to include in your garden. Remember that you will need access to every area of the garden in all weathers either via paths or lawn areas.

Step 4: Then comes the most important part of the whole process; thorough soil preparation.

Step 5: It is important to test your soil to ascertain whether it is acidic or alkaline, as this will dictate the range of plants you can grow.

Step 6: As we are looking specifically at gardening for busy people, plants must be carefully selected to ensure that maintenance of your garden is a pleasure rather than hard work.

Step 7: The final step, of course, is to enjoy your garden. Gardening for busy people is a realistic target so long as you think ahead and plan carefully.

For many years now, my garden has provided me with fresh air, exercise, relaxation and a wonderful environment in which to wash away the stresses and strains of everyday life. Whether you choose to go for a flower garden, a productive kitchen garden or a place to chill out with the family, your garden plot will become a place which enhances your whole quality of life.

For many years gardening has been my ‘therapy’, – my escape
from the pressures of professional life. Like many of you,
my life can be a fairly hectic and stressful business, so to
be able to turn my back on all that through the fresh air,
exercise and pleasure that gardening provides can be a truly
liberating experience. The last two houses into which we
moved were brand new, so, in each case, I was presented with
a virgin plot of uncultivated, weed-covered ground. The idea
in the planning of both was to create an area which we could
enjoy and which would give interest throughout the year.
Everything here is presented from an ‘enthusiast’s’
viewpoint rather than from that of a gardening professional.
